Ask about steel
Which steel grades come off a ship?
Mostly Grade A/AH36 shipbuilding steel from hull and deck, plus carbon steel pipe. Grades are usually traceable through class records.
How is it sold?
Per tonne, cut to furnace size or as reusable plate. Reusable plate fetches a premium over melting scrap.
When does it come off?
Typically 1–3 weeks into the refit, once hot work and cutting start.
